The perfect setting for catfish and carp fishing on the river Ebro in Spain

The river Ebro is famous for the huge catfish and carp that inhabit its waters and anglers from around the world come here to test their skills.  Here at Ebro Mad Cats HQ we are based just yards from the river Ebro at Riba Roja D’Ebre, with accommodation and exclusive swims on one of the most picturesque and productive sections of the river. We restrict the number of people fishing on our banks so you can be sure of having a section of river all to yourself.  Choose either our casita and pool or our static caravan. Either way you will have air-conditioning, internet tv and self-contained cooking facilities. We will set you up in a stunning location with quality tackle and comfortable accommodation. You can get a meal, a sleep or a shower secure in the knowledge that your swim will be just as you left it when you decide to get back to the action. Check out our accommodation page for details.

Are you ready for the challenge?

Plenty of big catfish and shoals of carp inhabit this stretch of the Ebro, as well as specimen zander, bass, perch and roach. Carp sizes vary from doubles to over 50lbs, and average around the 25lb mark; these are wild river fish so expect fast takes and a spectacular fight! The catfish exceed 240lb, with specimens over the magical 100lb barrier visiting the bank on a regular basis. Take a look at our carp and catfish photo galleries.  If you are into your fishing and want a new adventure, then this is the place for you. @stj.swain made the long drive down from the Uk in his van last week, and so far he has been rewarded with 3 takes, topped by this mint mid 30 around midnight last night!

Credit to Sam here; no sacks / retainers used, no cameraman to assist, just some belting self takes in the darkness before releasing his prize.

Still time for a Riba 40 yet my mate 😎🎣

2025 has been a winner for a number of reasons, not least the fishing!
It started in January and February with some mega carp from our garden, before April came around and we were off on the European road trip of my dreams. It couldn’t have gone better, catching carp from Lac De Saint Cassien 🇫🇷, Lago del Garda 🇮🇹, and Bled 🇸🇮

During the early part of summer we visited @puyravaudfishinglakes, where, just like my previous trips to this venue, Heron lake gifted me my biggest ever carp at a mammoth 78lb 🤯
This place is really really special, and I cannot begin to describe just how good the facilities and fishing are!

My next two adventures were solo trips to public lakes in France, one in August and one in September. Amazingly the stars aligned for me on both these trips, and I enjoyed some hectic action topped by multiple 40lb carp, three 50s and my biggest ever public carp to date, a 61lb giant.

Throw in a November trip to Thailand where all manor of weird fish were banked and all in all it’s been a belter of a year! I can only wonder if there’s time for a couple more river whackers before it’s done 😉
